Hope for Nakivale medical camp
In a bold step toward ensuring healthcare equity for all, the C-Care on the Road initiative recently extended its reach to the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. Recognizing that refugee communities face profound and immediate challenges in accessing consistent medical services, the C-Care Foundation, in partnership with the Rotary Cancer Run Programme, conducted a comprehensive medical outreach to bridge this critical gap with our dedicated medical team providing a comprehensive range of services to a remarkable 1,952 beneficiaries.
Addressing the Healthcare Gap in Refugee Settings Nakivale, one of the oldest refugee settlements in Africa, hosts a diverse population that often struggles with geographical and financial barriers to quality care. Our mission was driven by a single belief: that being a refugee should never stand between an individual and their well-being.
Our Integrated Scope of Care Throughout the outreach, our medical teams worked tirelessly to provide a full spectrum of healthcare services, including:
- General Medical Consultations: Addressing acute and chronic conditions.
- Preventive Screenings: Focusing on early detection through the Rotary Cancer Run partnership.
- Eye Care & Optometry: Providing optical reviews and distributing glasses to those with refractive errors.
- Maternal & Child Health: Supporting expectant mothers and providing essential pediatric reviews.
- Pharmacy Services: Dispensing essential medications free of charge to all beneficiaries.
Witnessing the Impact The overwhelming response from the community underscored the immense demand for these interventions. Hundreds of residents, many of whom had not seen a doctor in years, received professional medical attention. Beyond the clinical treatments, our team provided health education sessions, empowering refugees with the knowledge to manage their health proactively within the settlement. A key highlight of the outreach was the distribution of essential household items to mothers, a gesture aimed at supporting maternal well-being and domestic hygiene.
Looking Ahead: Our Continuous Commitment The journey to Nakivale is a testament to the success of "C-Care on the Road," yet it also serves as a reminder of the work that remains. We are committed to reaching Uganda’s most vulnerable populations, ensuring that healthcare is treated as a basic human right, not a privilege.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Rotary Cancer Run Programme and our dedicated medical teams for their unwavering support. Together, we are taking healthcare further—reaching the last mile, one community at a time.
