Hope Against Malaria Report
Malaria remains one of Uganda’s biggest public health challenges, but it is also one we can defeat through intention, partnership, and action.
In communities where overcrowding, poor sanitation, and limited access to healthcare heighten vulnerability, malaria continues to affect those who can least afford it, especially children under five and pregnant women. According to the Ministry of Health, the disease contributes to nearly 20% of all hospital deaths, making it an urgent priority for urban slum residents.
Through the Hope Against Malaria Project, a partnership between the Rotaract Club of Kampala Muyenga Breeze and the C-Care Foundation Uganda Foundation, we are taking a holistic, community-centered approach to reducing malaria incidence and mortality. This goes beyond treatment, it is about prevention, early diagnosis, education, and long-term behavioral change.
Over the course of this series, we will share how we are;
▸Expanding access to preventive tools like long-lasting insecticide-treated nets.
▸Delivering free malaria screening and treatment through mobile clinics.
▸Reaching thousands with community sensitization and education.
▸Training community health workers to strengthen local capacity.
▸Supporting health facilities with diagnostics, medicines, and data tools.
This is what sustainable impact looks like, combining immediate interventions with systems that outlast the project itself. Because fighting malaria is not just a health issue; it is a development priority, a leadership responsibility, and a shared commitment to protecting lives.
